Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Chairman, Khoirudin says partnerships with farmers in producing areas are very important to maintain food security in Jakarta.
Despite Jakarta has limited land to produce food commodities, the Jakarta administration has collaborated with several regions to meet the needs of residents.
"We have cooperation with farmers in East Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Padang, and other areas for rice needs. Jakarta also has a central market that can accommodate all commodities from the region," he expressed, Friday (12/6).
He explained one effort to maintain food security in Jakarta could be made by buying land in other areas to be used as farming land. By so, the administration could cooperate with farmers and its partners in the region by providing seeds and fertilizers to produce food commodities.
"So happy, there are many farmers and we're ready to collaborate with them. Some people farm and earn profits. We can also get cheaper and guaranteed prices," he explained.
He went on to say that food security discussion had been held with Economics and Finance Assistant, Sri Haryati, thus it could meet the food needs of a population of 10.8 million.
"I have had a dialogue with him on how to maintain Jakarta's food security because Jakarta has limited land for farming," he furthered.
He urged the Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Agency (KPKP) together with BUMD in the sector of food to maintain supply or supplies ahead of Christmas and New Year.
"So, we want to ensure that food supplies in Jakarta are guaranteed and that there are no price spikes," he closed.
