The Jakarta Provincial Government has announced the latest results of the Jakarta Regional Marine Health Index (IKLD) assessment, with a score reaching 69.65 in 2024. This score shows an increase from the previous year's assessment results of 68.77.
This achievement is the result of a comprehensive evaluation involving various aspects of marine sustainability aimed at maintaining and promoting sustainable marine conditions and coastal resources.
Its evaluation was initiated by the Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture, and Food Security Agency (KPKP) in collaboration with the Center for Coastal and Marine Resources Studies (PKSPL) for IPB University.
Jakarta KPKP Agency Head, Suharini Eliawati stated the Jakarta Marine Health Index 2024 assessment is an important step in Jakarta's efforts to create a healthy and sustainable marine ecosystem.
"It is certainly in line with Jakarta's vision as a global city that is prosperous and environmentally friendly," she expressed, Wednesday (12/4).
She explained the KPKP Agency was committed to continuously improving Jakarta's marine health through strategies that focus on strengthening environmental policies, conservation programs, and rehabilitation of marine ecosystems. These steps include increasing coastal protection, rehabilitating mangroves and seagrass beds, and developing sustainable marine tourism.
“With continuous monitoring, the target is to improve the Marine Health Index in the coming years," she explained.
She also emphasized the importance of community participation in preserving the sea, either through daily activities or participation in government programs.
"Maintaining the cleanliness and health of the sea is our collective responsibility. Let us together commit to the sustainability of Jakarta's seas," she explained.
Jakarta KPKP Agency's Maritime Section Head, Imam Fitrianto explained the Jakarta Regional Marine Health Index (IKLD) had achieved a good value. This evaluation was conducted based on guidelines issued by the Coordinating Economic Ministry for Maritime and Investment (Kemenko Marves), which covers environmental, economic, and social aspects.
According to her, there were no special categories in the IKLD assessment, only based on the overall score.
"This score is deemed good, as it is assessed from environmental, economic, and social aspects. Hopefully, this index can become a reference for maintaining the sustainability and health of Jakarta's marine ecosystem," he stated.
