The Chairperson of the Special Committee for the Draft Regional Regulation on Smoke-Free Areas (KTR) of the Jakarta City Council, Farah Savira, encouraged the smoke-free RWs that have been formed in Jakarta to be used as a pilot project in the implementation of the KTR Regional Regulation.

can serve as role models

According to Farah, the existence of a number of smoke-free RWs is important to strengthen the social approach in enforcing KTR regulations.

"We hope the designated neighborhood units (RW) can serve as role models. We'll discuss the criteria, their social approach to the community, and the form of support from the provincial government. These aspects must be clearly stated and explained to ensure the program is truly effective and can be implemented widely," she said, Friday (7/18).

She explained that currently, only six neighborhood units (RW) are registered as smoke-free areas, out of more than 2,000 in Jakarta. Therefore, a concrete strategy and full government support are needed to expand the implementation of KTR to the community level.

Farah also emphasized the importance of active public outreach after the bylaw is issued. She believes the City Council plays a strategic role in conveying the intent and function of the KTR bylaw in various community activities.

"We want all leaders and members of the City Council to take advantage of the opportunity to socialize the regional regulation to convey the purpose of this KTR Regional Regulation and how it will function to protect the community once this regulation is ratified," she stated.
