South Jakarta Food Security, Maritime and Agriculture Sub-agency has conducted free sterilization for 935 cats during September-November 2024.
South Jakarta Food Security, Maritime and Agriculture Sub-agency's Animal Husbandry and Health Section Head, Irawati Harry Artharini said the sterilization is aimed to control cat population in Jakarta.
"There were 621 male local cats and 314 female local cats," she said, Thursday (12/5).
The conducted sterilization programs, she added, namely routine local cat sterilization in every sub-district, sterile self-management, and also Trap Neuter Return (TNR) or catching wild local cats, sterilizing, and returning it back.
Moreover, her side also conducted free anti rabies vaccination for 4,708 pets such as dogs, cats, weasels, and monkeys during September-November 2024.
"We appeal the pet owners to actively do sterilization and anti rabies vaccination in urban village or sub-district. It is important to keep the pets health for the sake of its owners health too," she admitted.
